Glossary
Glossary helps you control how specific words or groups of words should translate. Current path in the app:https://app.voicecheap.ai/en/settings?settingsTab=customization&customizationTab=glossary
How glossary scope works
- there is one glossary scope per source language
- the same source term can translate differently depending on the target language
- team guests can read glossary entries but cannot edit them
Smart vs Strict mode
VoiceCheap supports two main glossary application modes for a source-language glossary:- Smart
- Strict
Smart mode accepts close grammatical variants.Use it when you want the same glossary choice to survive pluralization, gender agreement, tense shifts, or nearby grammatical variations. What you can do in the interface
- filter by language
- change the source-language scope
- import an
.xlsxfile - download a template
- view or edit entries manually
- switch the default application mode
Importing from Excel
The glossary import flow supports.xlsx files. VoiceCheap also provides a template and an example-based flow so you can start from the correct format more quickly.
Good workflow:
- choose the source language
- download the template
- fill the source column and target-language columns
- preview the import
- confirm once the rows look correct
When glossary matters most
Glossary is most useful for:- brand terminology
- legal or regulated wording
- product names that must stay untranslated
- recurring terminology in multilingual series content
